A Yeti 14 Oz Camp Cup Simplified Vanlife?

The Small Conveniences
Really? A Yeti Cup? Simplified vanlife? Come on!
I know, I know. I was as shocked as you.
With this lifestyle though, there are simple little things that just make life better/easier. This little Yeti cup has turned out to be one of those things.
My Mom actually discovered it first and bought one for my Dad. My Dad couldn’t stop raving about it, so Mom bought one for me. (thank you, my awesome parental units). Thank goodness they bought it for me or I would never have tried it. Ever.
I’m Cheap Frugal
I’m pretty frugal (in most areas anyway) so if I can find an off brand that works as well as name brand, I’m all over it. And 75% of the time, I am perfectly happy with an off brand – as well as the off brand price. Still, there are some things that brand matters. Mostly with food though. ;-P
Before my parents sent me this cup, I only had 3 other cups/tumblers in my van. I still have them in fact. They vary in size from 20 oz to 32 oz. Two of them handle cold beverages/ice and one handle hot stuff. I certainly didn’t think I needed another cup, let alone a pricey Yeti cup.
I was wrong. (To be clear, I have zero sponsorships with anyone, let alone Yeti, this is just my honest experience.)
Why This Yeti Is So Great
This particular Yeti mug is better than any other mug brand I’ve ever tried. The quality is amazing. It keeps things hot or cold for longer than anything I’ve ever used and it’s solid. This thing is going to last forever. In fact, I often see it advertised as the “toughest, most over-engineered camp mug out there”. I can’t really argue with that.
This is a smaller cup (14 oz) than what I’d usually buy, so I was shocked at how handy it was. I think width is a big factor here. It isn’t remotely wobbly and Basil Kitty is hard pressed to knock it over. It’s also really easy to eat out of when the lid is off… or drink from with the lid on.
Amazing Variety Of Uses!
Hot uses: oatmeal, instant soups, grits, miso, tea, coffee, queso cheese dip, and so much more.
Cold uses: cereal, yogurt with fruit, ice cream, cold drinks, keeps ice overnight, etc.
My Dad loves getting a Frosty from Wendy’s. They always melted too fast for him to enjoy the whole thing though. Now he dumps his Frosty in this cup right after buying it. (Yes, he takes the cup with him almost everywhere lol) Daddy is pretty tickled he can enjoy eating his Frosty as slow as he feels like it now. 🙂 I can’t wait to try this trick with a Reeces Peanut Butter Cup Blizzard… YUM!
When I go into Starbucks to work, I’m often there for hours. I can put something cold or hot in this for lunch and it stays that temp until I eat it. No worry about temps changing and bacteria growing on my food.
If I’m concerned I may not eat something for several hours, I will put a small layer of ice in the bottom of the cup and put the food I want to stay cold on top (either directly on the ice or in a reusable baggie, depending on the type of food). Works great will boiled eggs, macaroni salad, yogurt, salad dressing/dip. salsa, etc. I’ve even recently found some small reusable containers that fit nicely inside with room to add a bit of ice to keep things extra cold.
What’s The Catch?
Nothing is perfect and for some folks, there may be one small downfall. This cup is not going to fit in a cupholder. One of the things that makes it so great is how wide it is. This is also the thing that might make you pass on it.
Honestly, this was not a deal breaker for me because the cup has such an amazing variety of uses. Plus, it actually replaced several things (a bowl, a cup, etc) that were taking up valuable space. Still, it’s only fair to mention it.
My Daily GO TO
This has become an item I use at least daily, and sometimes, multiple times a day. I don’t know how I ever managed without it!!
I’ve got my eye on a 30 oz Yeti bottle that I eventually intend to buy to replace an off brand bottle I currently have. Probably not soon as I had a little financial bump recently, but when I get back on solid financial footing I’m all over it.
Sometimes brand names aren’t just hype and logos. Sometimes there is some hardcore quality backing that name brand. I have to admit, Yeti has won me over. Yes, it’s expensive, but this thing is built to last like nothing I have seen so far. Unless you lose it or run over it with a paver, this thing isn’t going anywhere.
That’s all, for now, friends. I hope everyone is having a wonderful day and working toward living their best life!
